Midcoast Symphony Orchestra presents "Heroes: Common and Uncommon"
Saturday, October 25, 2025 (7:00 PM - 9:30 PM) (EDT)
Description
Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony, and Lee Hoiby’s dramatic musical setting of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech are the highlights of the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra’s season-opener, a concert entitled “Heroes: Common and Uncommon.”
The program also includes Giuseppe Verdi’s powerful overture to “I vespri siciliani.” Led by long-time musical director Rohan Smith, the orchestra welcomes the return of Philip Lima as guest baritone soloist to sing the “I have a Dream” piece, as well as several spirituals.
The concert takes place on Saturday, October 25, at 7pm at the Franco Center in Lewiston. Tickets are $27 in advance and $30 at the door. They can be reserved at midcoastsymphony.org or by calling the box office at (207) 481-0790.
In keeping with the MSO’s commitment to serving the community’s youth, admission is free to anyone 25 and under. As part of its ongoing educational and outreach series “More with Midcoast,” the MSO will host an intermission performance in the Heritage Hall downstairs at the Franco Center by members of the Kennebec Valley Youth Symphony, a non-profit organization offering a professional-style orchestral experience to intermediate and advanced student musicians in central Maine and beyond.
