Eric Cousens Director of Planning + Permitting
Born in Belfast, Maine I have loved this State and everything outdoors from the beginning. While living in Hill, NH as a teenager I learned that my hometown was planned as part of a flood control project in the 1940s. The idea that my entire community was planned from scratch, all at once, and then the Federal Government moved in residents, relocated existing homes and most of their existing neighbors sparked my interest in planning. After graduating from the University of Maine in 2000, I worked for the City of Lewiston as a Land Use Inspector and Assistant Planner until starting with the City of Auburn in 2006. I have served the City of Auburn in various Planning and Economic Development functions for the past 15 years. Auburn has a long history of Planning, being the first in Maine to adopt a Comprehensive Plan in 1919. I am proud to be a part of the team supporting continued growth in Auburn focused on the City's core with logical expansions over time.
