MTUG Webinar #2: Security in Industrial IoT / SCADA control systems
For #CyberSecurityAwarenessMonth, the nonprofit Maine Technology Users Group showcases the space where the internet meets industry, and the security concerns that could affect us all.
Justin Hogue of LEC will discuss security and the application of Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT) in industrial control and monitoring systems (commonly referred to as SCADA – Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) with an eye toward Maine’s varied and often rural industrial sectors. Specific similar case studies will be discussed from analogous sites, including water and environmental engineering systems.
Justin will cover challenges around securing sensor networks and SCADA systems and provide practical, real-life approaches for simplifying and securing data from remote and previously isolated locations. In addition, the discussion will explore a methodology for developing communication security strategies for industrial and utility networks, drawing samples from deployments that maximize bandwidth and ensure redundancy using cellular technology.
Lastly, the speaker will touch on considerations/questions operations personnel should ask when evaluating solutions.
MTUG provides most webinars online as recordings about a week after they are aired. Check out our Past Events Archive under the Events menu at www.mtug.org.
