Would you like to know what makes a border collie tick? Meet Bea & Maisie and learn how they work on a local sheep farm. John and Doreen Simmons own and operate Stoneheart Farms in South Paris, where they have been raising sheep for 25 years. As their farm grew, they needed more help and turned to the herding dogs. They got their first border collie 20 years ago and have been working, training and living with them ever since. They will share information about training, how the dogs help around the farm, and what their limitations are. The dogs of Stoneheart Farms are widely known for their working prowess as well as entertaining folks at many fairs, including the Common Ground Country Fair. The farm sells lamb throughout central and western Maine, the greater Portland area and at their farm store. You can learn more about their farm at https://www.stoneheartfarms.com/ This program will be an in person program, is family friendly, and will take place in the Androscoggin Community Room. For our planning purposes, registration is required; to register, visit the Events calendar on our website, contact the Reference Desk at 207-333-6640, ext. 4 or email dwallace@auburnpubliclibrary.org. This program is part of our Adult Summer Reading Program, “Tales with Tails” which runs through August 31. Other programs, all via Zoom, will include two programs on gardening presented by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, an author talk with Christopher McDougall (Running with Sherman), and a virtual visit with Misfits Rehab, a local wildlife rehabilitator! For more details about these and other programs, check our website, our Facebook page (Auburn Public Library Advocates), or send us an email (as above).
