Leading through Difficult Times
In times of unprecedented change or crisis, leaders will face challenges and obstacles they may not have dealt with before. A crisis, such as our current global pandemic, brings about uncertainty and a feeling of loss of control. During these times, resilient leaders can use compassion and empathy to calm fears, create hope, and communicate a clear vision and path through the crisis. Christopher Massaro, lecturer in leadership studies at the University of Southern Maine, will discuss how leaders can navigate uncertainty during a crisis, coach and mentor employees to reduce doubt, apprehension, and anxiety, and communicate with transparency. He will also discuss the importance of emotional intelligence and self-inventory to maintain mental stability as a leader.
