Meet Our Presenters: David Twitchell and Cynthia Phinney
David is a 42+ year HR professional and is currently the Vice President of Human Resources for Catholic Charities NH. One of New Hampshire's largest non-profits with almost 1000 employees scattered throughout the state providing social service programs to those in need, the disenfranchised and the most vulnerable along with seven nursing homes where they provide skilled nursing services to some of New Hampshire's oldest citizens.
David is a SHRM certified professional having attained his SHRM-SCP. Additionally, he has been a long-term volunteer for SHRM having served in varied chapter and state council positions, has been a past Chapter President, State Director for Vermont, a Northeast Regional MAC Representative. Over the last several years he has served on several special expertise panels, Total Rewards, HR Disciplines, Ethics, the Advisory Panel and Talent. He has served in the capacity as a SHRM Certification Instructor as well as Fundamentals of Compensation. David is the State Director-elect for New Hampshire and will be retiring at the end of the year from his current position to assume a more consultative approach to assist HR professionals in the field.
Cynthia Phinney, a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1837, is in her second term as President of the Maine AFL-CIO, a federation of approximately 160 labor unions representing approximately 40,000 workers across a state of 1.3 million people. She is also currently the President of the Maine Fair Trade Campaign, a coalition of labor, environmental, social justice and faith organizations working together for the creation of socially, economically and environmentally just and sustainable trade policies and a fair global economy. Formerly a hand-sewer at two different factories when Maine's shoe industry was still in existence, in 1991 she secured a job at an electrical utility when the Maine shoe industry collapsed as jobs moved overseas for cheaper labor. In that job she was able to join a union and become a shop steward. Over her years with IBEW she also served on staff as a full time organizer and for two terms as business manager of her local.
