HR Thursdays ~ "Return to Work and Accommodations"
HR Thursdays: Return to Work and Accommodations
Presented by: Rebecca Webber, Skelton Taintor & Abbott
You have an employee who has been out on FMLA leave and wants to return to work. The employee says he is fully recovered. You are not so sure. Now what? Or maybe the employee has been out on company sick leave or disability leave due to cancer treatments and they now want to return to a part-time schedule – now what? How much does an employer have to do to accommodate an employee’s return? What resources are there to help, whether you’re a large business with an HR department or a small one whose bookkeeper handles employee issues? This area of the law is particularly challenging because so many laws intersect on the topic but there are some basic non-legal guidelines that help navigate the challenge while reducing risk of legal claims. On September 27 at noon at the Chamber, local attorney Rebecca Webber, board member of the Central Maine Human Resources Association, will share those guidelines and more.
Rebecca Webber is a partner at the law firm of Skelton Taintor & Abbott. She focuses her practice on employment law. She provides regular alerts on employment law topics to corporate and municipal clients. She has chaired the Maine State Bar Association’s annual seminar on labor and employment law for a number of years. HR Thursdays: Best Practices for Businesses with Employees
HR Thursdays are presented in partnership with the LA Metro Chamber, Central Maine Human Resource Association and the Lewiston CareerCenter and offer employers resources and tools to help gain a competitive edge. Presenters will share best practices to businesses owners, HR staff and hiring managers in order to create meaningful recruitment, training, and retention strategies. HR Thursdays allow participants, whether employers of one employee or 1500, gain information needed to survive the labor shortage while giving tangible, and usable, tools and resources.
