HR Thursdays ~ "Creating Handbooks and Policies that Work"
HR Thursdays: Creating Handbooks & Policies that Work
Presented by: Tawny Alvarez from Verrill Dana in Portland, Maine
Today’s ever changing social landscape requires HR professionals to make changes to their handbooks regularly. Come listen to Tawny Alvarez discuss the pros and cons to new and stead-fast sections of the employee handbook. What are some of the changes to old norms and what is a definite must have new area to cover.
Tawny centers her practice on the understanding that the employment landscape is ever-changing—from medical marijuana’s effect on drug testing, to the effect of social networking in the workplace and mobile devices’ effect on wage and hour issues. In this evolving landscape she recognizes that for companies to remain profitable and successful they must be proactive, as opposed to reactive, to these employment issues. A graduate of Pace University School of Law (J.D., 2008), magna cum laude and Thomas College (B.S., 2005), summa cum laude Tawny has been Recognized in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business under Labor & Employment and selected by peers for inclusion in New England Super Lawyers© under Employment & Labor.
HR Thursdays are presented in partnership with the LA Metro Chamber, Central Maine Human Resource Association and the Lewiston CareerCenter and offer employers resources and tools to help gain a competitive edge. Presenters will share best practices to businesses owners, HR staff and hiring managers in order to create meaningful recruitment, training, and retention strategies. HR Thursdays allow participants, whether employers of one employee or 1500, gain information needed to survive the labor shortage while giving tangible, and usable, tools and resources.
