Book Discussion: "How Democracies Die"
The Camden Conference and the Auburn Public Library invite you to a book discussion -- “How Democracies Die” by Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt. Since 2016, we have been asking the question, “Is our democracy in danger?” Drawing on decades of research and a wide range of historical and global examples, from 1930s Europe to contemporary Hungary, Turkey, and Venezuela to the American South during Jim Crow, Levitsky and Ziblatt show how democracies die -- and how ours can be saved. The authors are professors of government at Harvard University. Levitsky’s research focuses on Latin America and the developing world; Ziblatt studies Europe from the 19th century to the present. (Information from book jacket, provided by publisher.) This discussion will take place in person, in the Androscoggin Community Room. To register, please contact the Reference Desk at 207-333-6640, ext 4. Please give us an email address when registering so we can contact you when your book is available for pick up. Thanks to funding provided by the Camden Conference, the copy of the book is yours to keep. The Camden Conference was founded in 1987 as a nonprofit, non-partisan educational organization whose mission is to foster informed discourse on world issues. The 2022 conference “Europe: Challenged at Home and Abroad” will take place February 25-27, 2022, and will be entirely virtual, live-streamed from Camden, Maine.
